Getting
more out of your holiday
Whether
you travel for relaxation, fulfilment, discovery,
adventure or to learn our culture, Glaciers
Trek-n-Tour is the right agency for you! Why?
Because we tailor-make itineraries to meet
your needs.
We offer a “no frill” holiday
experience for you. Our main focus is to provide
you with a truly authentic experience and at the
same time, allow you an opportunity to develop a
better understanding of our rich traditions and
culture.
Our
philosophy
As
we are one of the last “untouched” places in
India, or the world, for that matter, we strongly
believe in responsible tourism.
Having only 4 months in which to make a
living, we do need tourism in Ladakh in order to
survive. At
the same time, we don’t feel the need to charge
exorbitant rates nor convert Ladakh into a one of
the most visited places if the price we have to
pay is to lose our cultural heritage and unique
identity.
We
feel that tourists need to appreciate the great
many positive benefits that tourism can bring,
particularly to our rural communities. For
this reason, we adopted our philosophy based on
responsible tourism.
When tourism is Ladakh is developed in a proper
and responsible way, not only will it have a
positive contribution to the local economies, but
also greatly benefits the conservation of the
landscapes, monuments and wildlife.
It creates local employment opportunities in a
place where the harsh winter fails to attract
tourists 8 months in a year. For this
reason, we encourage the use of local agents/tour
agencies with a strong belief in conservation.
Remember, you can help the local economy by buying
local produce in preference to imported goods.
When bargaining, please be reasonable. The small
amount may be significant to a local. We encourage
the use, wherever possible, of small, locally
owned, family-run accommodation.
The
responsible traveller wants to get a little bit
more out of their travels and give a little bit
back to the special people and places that they
come across. Their aim is not merely to visit a
destination but to have deeper and more authentic
travel experiences -
experiences essential to understanding
Ladakh’s traditions, cultures and customs -
rather than those created for tourism, or those
whose existing meanings and uses have become lost
as they have been re-packaged for tourism.
We also encourage sponsoring children’s
education in Ladakh and where possible, to
contribute financially to the local projects local
of the areas you visit (schools, hospitals, etc.).
Remember,
a responsible traveller has to understand that
some cultural experiences are best kept private,
and that their visit should not be seen as an
intrusion. They believe that travelling with
respect earns them respect from the locals.
Please take the time to read the Essential
Facts for Visitors.
The
responsible traveller prefers smaller groups and
wants to meet some local people and sees travel as
a way to expose them to other people’s
lifestyles and beliefs. At
Glacier’s, we create itineraries that allow
local people and cultures to be more accessible.
We believe that we can encourage minimising
environmental damage, by promoting exploration in
small groups, and, as much as possible, on foot.
Nature
– A time for rediscovery…
It
is often said that spending time in nature is good
for the soul. Ladakh allows you to
spend time with nature, and limit the time you sit
in jeeps. Spending time with the locals
allows you to understand our relationship with our
environment, and that income from tourism can be a
powerful incentive for us to preserve and conserve
our surrounding. Remember to discard litter in the
right place. Take home with you all your
non-biodegradable rubbish (particularly plastics)
where it can be more reliably disposed of.
Leave only friendship behind…
Enjoy
the memories of Ladakh…. |
