Grade 1 – Easy
These trips can be enjoyed by anyone who leads a reasonably
active life. Experience is
not necessary at this level. Please note, however, walking
always involves some exertion.
Trails in Ladakh are seldom flat, and you must still expect
to have a reasonable amount
of ascent and descent.

Grade 2 – Moderate
You need to be in good health and reasonably
fir, and taking regular exercise. These trips are a mixture
of some longer and shorter walks.

higher lever of
stamina than Grade 1 trips. |

Grade 3 – Strenous
For any trek at this level, a high level of physical fitness
is required. Previous trekking
experience, although desirable, is not essential, if you are
confident of your physical
condition.

Grade 4 – Tough
You would require previous experience of
trekking, preferably at altitude and some
degree of mountaineering skills. You also need complete
confidence in your physical
condition and have the ability to trek for many days without
a break and be able to cope
with difficult terrain and difficult paths of steep mountain
sides. Extremes of altitude
and weather may also be encountered, and on some treks, it
may be necessary to use ice
axe and crampons. Stamina is very important as walking days
are long.
