Nubra Valley:-
The Nubra Valley, known as the “Valley of Flowers”, is
one of the most popular area to visit. It has the best
climate in Ladakh and is well cultivated and fertile.
Nubra Valley is located on the north of the Indus valley
On the way to Nubra Valley is the world's highest
motorable pass known as Khardung-La, which is
18,3000 feet above sea level.
Because of its lower altitude, the valley has a mild
climate and is therefore rich in vegetation. It is often
referred to as the "Orchard of Ladakh”.
In ancient times, the valley was part of the Caravan
route. Today it offers unparalleled trekking
opportunities and unbelievably breathtaking scenic
landscapes. It is also the natural habitat of the double
backed Bastian camel. A camel safari across the sand
dunes, between the towns of Hunder and Diskit can be
arranged.
Buddhist monasteries flourished in the valley over the
years, among which the famous Diskit Gompa, which
is the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley,
being over 350 years old and belongs to the Gelukpa
(Yellow hat) sect. |
